Dmitri Valentinovich Smirnov (born in 1952) is a Petersburg composer whose artistic individuality is formed mostly by large professional experience as a choirmaster and a teacher of the choir conducting class. A great number of Smirnov’s pieces for choirs of different compositions with accompaniment and a capella have entered permanent repertoire of Russian and foreign choirs.
In current edition there are presented six pieces by Gustav Mahler and Johannes Brahms in Dmitri Smirnov’s arrangement for women choir accompanied by piano. In supplement there are published original German lyrics with Russian translation.
The compilation is intended for choirs of middle and senior musical educational institutions, and for professional collectives.
