Yuri Kornakov, the acknowledged master, one of the leading Petersburgian composers, the pianist, the pedagogue. He is very famous among those, whose passion is music art. Kornakov works in different genres, i. e. the music-theatrical, the symphonic, the chamber-instrumental, the choral, the vocal. His piano compositions and the music for children have enjoyed great popularity.

Yuri Kornakov’s music is original and his creative work is versatile. His compositions are perpetually included to various international festivals’ programmes.

Yuri Kornakov is the Honoured Art Worker of Russia, the professor of the Saint-Petersburg Culture and Arts University and the Humanitarian University of Trade Unions.

His talent’s and skill’s recognition was revealed by the victories at many All-Union and All-Russian composers’ competitions, at the First Prokifiev International Competition, at the four international competitions in Japan. His ballet “The Lord of Jungle”(to R. Kipling) was awarded the State Prize of Buryatia.

Already for a long time Yuri Kornakov is fond of communicating with the well-known native and foreign wind performers. Hence, there appeared many compositions: Two Concertos for Flute and Orchestra, the Wind Quintet, the Polonaise-fantasy for flutes quartet and piano with percussion, two Sonatas and the Concerto Capriccio for flute, the Sonata for Oboe, the Suite and Waltz-Caprice for Bassoon and piano, pieces for clarinet etc. All of them arouse mostly vivid interest in the minds of performers and listeners. This is not really a surprise, as they are written with the comprehensive competence in the sphere of instruments, so as technological and artistic possibilities. 

The Rhapsody to N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov’s Themes for flute and piano (2004) is one of the recent compositions by Yu. Kornakov intended for flute. There are three popular themes, worked out exquisitely and amply. Here you are sudden contrasting turns revealing flute’s abilities. It was at the First International Winds, and Percussion Competition in St Petersburg taking place in 2005, when the “Rhapsody” was performed as the obligatory piece.
