Sergei Mikhailovich Slonimsky (born in 1932) is truly considered to be one of the leaders of the modern Russian music, being the author of соmpositions in actually all the genres — from operas and symphonies to cinematographic sound-tracks.
The “Burlesque for hautboy and piano” was written in 1957 for oboist Vladimir Kurlin, who was its first performer. This piece was published before, however being called “Humoresque”.
