The present collection represents a wide panorama of pedagogical repertoires for the saxophone and piano — starting from polyphonic compositions from the chivalrous medieval age to music from contemporary films.
In this edition, ambitious and demanding performers will find an anthology of compositions by Bach, Beethoven, Gershwin, Rimsky-Korsakov, Prokofiev, Rakhmaninov and first-time publications of arrangements and original compositions in Russia. The latter includes pieces that have never been published before, such as “Mariyskie Melodii” (Mari Folk Melodies) by Andrei Eshpay. Such an unconventional selection will allow students not only to master various kinds of performing techniques, but also help them broaden their creative range.
Teachers of contest participants and spectators of contests, organized by the Saint-Petersburg Training Center for Education of Committee on Culture at the State Educational Institution of Further Professional Education will find practically a complete list of mandatory compositions and arrangements for contests.
The author and compiler of this collection has marked changes in breathing (v) and edited strokes in all the compositions so that students can master methodological intonation and proper phrasing.
The collection has been recommended for printing by the city’s methodological bureau of teachers of wind and percussion instruments of the Saint-Petersburg Training Centre for Education of Committee on Culture at the State Educational Institution of Further Professional Education to be used as a manual in children’s music schools and children’s art schools.
