Saxopfone is the instrument of the great destiny in the Great Music... Are you surprised?

Oh, yes, that's really the saxophone, which is known to you, but from jazz, seeming so familiar to you. Did you ever think, who was the first one among the famous musicians to resort to saxophone in his music. Was it Charlie Parker, Lecester Young, John Coltrane, Jan Garbarek? No, you are not quite right... Just open the score of the suite “L'Arlesienne” (music to the same name drama by Alphonse Daudet by Georges Bizet, and you'll discover the saxophone part there. The Russian composer Alexander Glazunoy created the whole concerto for saxophone (by the way, for alto saxophone, which this collection is worked out for).

If we remember in addition here about Giacomo Meyerbeer, Jules Massenet, Claude Debussy, Richard Strauss etc., we'll soon get the impressive list of “serious” composers. Besides, why are there so many Frenchmen among these composers? Didn't you guess already? That's true, simply ;the saxophone originates from Paris. It was the Belgian wind master Adolphe Sax, who taught saxophone in Paris Conservatoire. His class was opened in 1857. Thus it began so long ago.

However, this interesting, fine and original instrument requires something to learn playing it. So, we'd like to offer your attention this collection, compiled by one of the most mature vPetersburgian saxophonist Fyodor Ilyich Safronov. This educational aid includes the pieces of: different complexity. Of course, first of all you are to meet with children's songs (such as “One-two-three-four-five — little rabit went to walk” and “Little Fir-Tree”). You'll play your favourite melodies from this colletion. Among them there are the ones from Tchaikovsky ("Children's Album") or from well-known operas and music comedies. You'll say good-bye to this collection only having mastered the whimsical “Humoresque” by Antonin Dvorak and the “Romance” by Dmitri Shostakovich from the film “Gad-fly”. Strictly speaking, this collection will be of use" to the students of different forms in Music Schools, so as to all the lovers of saxophone playing
